Winscombe Community Association’s  WiNSpace Team are pleased to announce they have signed a contract with Rigg Construction Ltd to build the long awaited new community centre. They are currently waiting for confirmation of the start date and hoping it will be September 2025.

As a listening volunteer, you can make a real difference to someone’s future.
You’ll receive full training to prepare you for the kinds of conversations you’ll have. And when you start out, you’ll have a mentor with you, to give you confidence you’re doing the right thing. Our listening volunteers are there for anyone who needs emotional support. You will learn new skills and the confidence to use them, including understanding people and managing difficult conversations.

Marie Curie are looking for volunteers across the Mendip area to help raise funds for our hospice at home nursing service in Somerset. The role involves placing Marie Curie tins and daffodil boxes and banking income. It is a flexible role, in which you can give as much or little time as you like. It is a great way to get out and active in your local community, while raising money to support people with terminal illness in your area.

Prickles Hedgehog Rescue in Cheddar needs volunteers to help with the morning clean out or afternoon feed.

Cheddar Gorge Visitor Information Centre (the VIC) is run entirely by local volunteers, and looking for more people to staff the shop and help visitors. It’s an interesting and rewarding role, meeting people from all over the world. Some local knowledge is helpful, but we provide comprehensive information, and new staff are paired with experienced members. 

Could you volunteer to enhance the health and wellbeing of older people? Age UK Somerset is searching for volunteers to train in, and deliver, Tai Chi QiGong or Sit, Fit and Fun sessions. No previous experience is necessary.

Axbridge District Rotary – Another Great Charity Quiz Night!
Another successful event and very much enjoyed by everyone, a special night as this was the Club’s major community event since becoming a chartered Rotary Club at the end of February earlier this year.
A big thank-you must go to all who took part on the night and to those who organised and ran the event that being the membership of Axbridge District Rotary as a whole – a great team effort.
Come along and find out how we do that. We meet on the first and third Thursdays 7:30pm at The Lamb in Weare (A38).

Can you spare a couple of hours monthly to become a collection box coordinator for Marie Curie, raising funds for our end of life care services in Somerset? This flexible and easy role helps us to raise valuable funds and awareness for our work in the local area, and helps us care for more people living with a terminal illness.

The role involves distributing collection tins, banking donations and thanking venues in your local community. Volunteer as much time as you like.

Wedmore 40/30 charity cycle event returns on Sunday 1st September.
Registrations are now open for the Wedmore 40/30 that brings a burst of colour to the Wedmore roads in September. The annual cycle challenge sees cycling enthusiasts take on a breath-taking 30, 40 or 70 mile course across the spectacular Mendip Hills and Somerset levels, with a fun, family-friendly 12 mile course also available.

Organised by a group of cyclists from Wedmore together with Weston Hospicecare, the event raises funds for the hospice with a share of the registration fee also going to St Mary’s Church, Wedmore.
